Women Make Film – documentary

The epic documentary “Women Make Film” by Mark Cousins, includes 40 “chapters”. The documentary is narrated by Tilda Swinton, Jane Fonda, Debra Winger Adjoa Andoh, Kerry Fox, Thandie Newton, and Sharmila Tagore , shot and edited by Mark Cousins. Full-length 14-hour version receives its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Documentary has been launched by Dogwoof and Hopscotch Films.

The film has been divided by Cousins into five parts for screening in Toronto Film festival, September 7th-11th. The first four installments are three hours each and the final section is two hours.

“Most films have been directed by men. Most of the recognized so-called movie classics were directed by men. For 13 decades and on all six filmmaking continents, thousands of women have been directing films, too – some of the best films. What movies did they make? What techniques did they use? What can we learn about cinema from them?”

    I was very happy to meet you at the Venice airport on January 26, 2020. I studied in the American-Soviet Film Initiative and if you took part in the Nika awards in 1990 in Moscow, then maybe we already knew each other and I hope we can make next film about this joint venture together. Anyway, thanks for the selfie.
